The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium celebrated the 75th Anniversary of its founding on August 6th at 7:30 pm at Rosicrucian Park in San Jose. The evening was a huge success with a spectacular response from the public and media and featured such things as exhibit openings, special tours, outdoor games, planetarium shows, as well as a reception for the public with traditional Egyptian foods served. Guest speakers and presentations highlighted the festivities.
Officially opening on this date was "Egypt Through Time", an exhibit covering thousands of years of Egyptian history through the modern day through about two hundred ancient and modern artifacts and images. Some artifacts not displayed for decades have been removed from the vault for this very special exhibit.
As part of this exhibit is an interactive presentation of the CT scans and virtual autopsy of the museum's child mummy. The child's age and gender, and details of life and death, are presented through cutting edge technology in an interactive exhibit provided by Silicon Graphics. 3-D technology and infra-red sensors give visitors the opportunity to explore the mummy, almost as if they are the researchers themselves.
Also opening on this evening was "History of the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum" exhibit, which is a historical retrospective tracing the origins and founding of the museum itself.
