This detail of hieroglyphs is from the entrance to the rock tomb replica, one of the museum's most popular teaching venues. The replica is modeled on elements from several originals in the Beni Hasan desert in Upper Egypt.

August Activities to Celebrate Museum's 75th Anniversary

"History of the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum" Exhibit
Opens August 6, 2005
In 2005 the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum celebrates its 75th Anniversary. H.Spencer Lewis, the late Imperator of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC, founded the museum in 1930. The collection started with one authentic figurine of the ancient Egyptian goddess, Sekhmet, which was displayed on his desk. When guests would visit his office and ask about the statuette, he would tell them, "That is the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum". This exhibit will show the transformation from our humble beginnings of one artifact in an office to an ever changing museum with over 4,000 authentic artifacts and more than 100,000 guests each year.

"Egypt Through Time" Exhibit
August 6 - January 30
More than a home for ruins of the ancient past, Egypt is a country that has evolved and changed over time, yet has remained uniquely Egypt. This exhibit will trace the culture of Egypt from its earliest manifestations in the Stone Age, through the ages of the pharaohs, Copts and caliphs, to Egypt of the modern day. This exhibit will be composed of over one hundred artifacts and images, bringing tens of thousands of years of culture to life.

The people of ancient Egypt live on in their descendants, and they continue to honor and practice much of the culture of their ancestors. Egypt is uniquely “Egyptian”, and the people are proud of their history and the modern culture and society they have created. In this exhibit, we will explore and celebrate all that is uniquely Egyptian from both the ancient past to the modern day.

"Foucault’s Pendulum" Book Salon
Saturday August 6, 10:30 am
Held at the Rosicrucian Research Library at Rosicrucian Park (Entrance on Randol Ave)
Book Salons are informal gatherings to discuss a book the participants have chosen to read and review. All are welcome! For more information, contact the Library at (408) 947-3695 or librarian@rosicrucian.org. Foucault's Pendulum is Umberto Eco at his mystifying best, as a group of scholars wryly decide to create a literary hoax by inventing Templar connections to all mystical groups. In so doing, they set off a chain of (metaphysical?) events that quickly spins out of control. Read the book and join the discussion!

The ancient Mystery Schools were centers of study and mystic initiation in the ancient Western world, where the mysteries of the Universe, of Nature, and of humanity were explored. These “schools” educated students in natural laws and principles so they could better live in harmony with them; encouraged introspection in order to know one’s self; and engendered within a feeling of connection with the Great Mystery of the Universe. Drawing on the resources of the Rosicrucian archives and current scholarly research, we will explore the beliefs and practices of the Mystery Schools of Orpheus, ancient Eleusis, and Delphi, Pythagoras, Mithras, and Egypt, including Akhenaton, Osiris and Isis. We will also apply techniques used in millennia past, in order to experience some of the lessons of these mystical traditions. Finally, we will explore how the Rosicrucian tradition perpetuates the wisdom of these ancient Mystery Schools today.

Julie Scott serves as the Grand Master of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC in North America and is the Director of the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose, California. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Supreme Grand Lodge of AMORC. Julie Scott is a teacher and a student. Her favorite subjects include history (especially ancient Egypt and Greece), myth and ritual, and sustainable business practices. She has a Master of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and most appreciates spending time in nature, including long walks on the beach and through forests, and at Rosicrucian Park, tending the plants and greeting guests.
