This detail of hieroglyphs is from the entrance to the rock tomb replica, one of the museum's most popular teaching venues. The replica is modeled on elements from several originals in the Beni Hasan desert in Upper Egypt.

Alexandria: Chalice of Wisdom for the Western World

Facilitated by Steven Armstrong, Ph.D. (abd)

Alexandria was the Hellenistic capital of Egypt for 900 years from Alexander's conquest until the mid 7th century of our era. During these centuries, with its famous Library, Academies and Mystery Schools, it was a fertile nexus of ancient Egyptian wisdom, knowledge and religion with the most advanced European, Asian and African science, philosophy, art and spirituality of the day. This seminar will explore the many aspects of Alexandria's importance in its own times, and the enduring legacy of this period for today. Through the resources of the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and the Rosicrucian Research Library, seminar participants will be given an experience of Egypt's ancient capital on the Mediterranean, as well as resources for further investigation.

Steven Armstrong has an academic and professional background in Classics, Philosophy, History and Eastern Christian spirituality from Yale, Fordham, Maryknoll, Holy Cross, Weston, and the Graduate Theological Union. His current research interests include the Western Mystery Tradition in its many expressions, including the convergences of Western Esotericism, Earth-based traditions and Eastern Christian mysticism. Having taught at the secondary, undergraduate and graduate levels, he currently serves as Rosicrucian Park’s research librarian, as manager for the English-language local groups of AMORC and the TMO in the Americas, and on the ritual team of the Grand Temple in San Jose.
