This lovely coffin of the Lady Mesehti originates at the site of Asyut in Egypt. The style of the text and layout is specific to that site. This is the east side of the coffin: the eyes were meant to face the rising sun each day. Meat, bread, and beer rest on tables for easy afterlife access. The west side of this coffin is currently missing, but the probable mate is currently in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum.
