Description:
Servants were thought to be needed by the wealthy in the afterlife, just as they were required for everyday life. Servant models were placed in the tombs, rather than sacrificing real people. This woman is grinding grain on a saddle quern, in preparation to making bread. Egyptian bread had a great deal of sand in it, because of this grinding process,, and most young people had teeth worn to the gum.
